Multimedia Design in Distance Education & Mobile Learning & Social Media

First of all let’s check what is ‘Distance Learning or Distance Education’ ? It can be any form of remote education where the student is not physically present for the lesson  and now it is spreading because of the pandemic and of course the power of the Internet.

·      Advantages of Distance Education

Time Saving- Studying from anywhere - Comfort Level (Distance Education offers a person the Comfort Level which one cannot get otherwise) –  The Flexibility -Cost Factor - Easy Availability - Technological Facilitation - Beneficial for Slow Learners

The teacher has significant roles in Distance Education. The instructor should design the course and guide the students as well as promoting students’ self regulation competencies.

Distance Learning Media

There are several learning (and teaching) options online. The internet, video conference, video tapes, Computer Conferencing and television broadcasting are the most common ones.
Distance education is evolving based on changing economical and social contexts. Knowledge is rapidly expanding and education is benefiting from the improvements of the technology.

Personally I believe that learner autonomy should be the goal of distance education. It is good for students to be self-directed, motivated, evaluative, and responsible for their own learning. This changes the traditional role of the teacher  to a  moderator rather than being the sole source of information. Distance educators should design learning environments that stimulate productive learning activities. Students use these activities to achieve course goals and meet their individual needs.
