Animation is the process of designing, drawing, making layouts and preparation of photographic sequences which are integrated in the multimedia and gaming products. 

Types of Animation

·   Computer based animation is on animation performed by a computer using graphical tools to provide visual effects.Stop motion animation (Claymation, Cut-outs)
·  2D animation stands for the two-dimensional animation, meaning that characters and backgrounds in this kind of projects are created in the two-dimensional, flat space. It's widely used for creating animated movies, cartoons, marketing videos, advertisements, educational materials, games, and so much more. 
·3D animation. Animating objects that appear in a three-dimensional space. They can be rotated and moved like real objects. 3D animation is at the heart of games and virtual reality, but it may also be used in presentation graphics to add flair to the visuals. 3D animation can be used to animate characters for commercials, television, and movies, creating unique actors that can be used to do just about anything.
  • Motion graphics are pieces of animation or digital footage which create the illusion of motion or rotation, and are usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects. Motion graphics is animation, but with text as a major component.
  • Stop motion is an animated filmmaking  echnique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back. Any kind of object can  be animated,
Using animation has two main roles in learning. First purpose of animation in academics is to fulfil a cognitive function. Secondly, as an affective learning tool that attracts attention, engages the learner, and sustains motivation aspect.

Animated educational videos also enhance creativity in learners and motivate them to explore complex dimensions of knowledge. 
Moreover presentations can be made more engaging by incorporating animation. Lessons can be narrated in story form which improves comprehension.
